I want y’all to know that writing this book terrified me, because it is a book about postpartum depression. I was scared of being judged, and I was afraid of looking like an idiot. Hell, I was panicked by the thought of failing.
It took a lot of courage (and a lot of encouragement from my mom friends) to finally take the plunge. Ladies, we need more real talk, especially when it comes to motherhood.
This book gets pretty real. I talk about my personal postpartum experience and what can happen if PPD goes untreated. In this book, I also share everything from recovering from a c-section to the difficulties of getting your baby on a schedule.
I want to help.
My intention is not to freak out any new mamas or soon to be mamas with a book about postpartum depression. I intend to help. You may have a different experience than I did. I hope you do. Hopefully, your journey is incredible, and you think this book is entirely unnecessary for you.
Unfortunately, that’s not going to be the case for every mama. It is hard. It’s one of the hardest things we will ever do. If this book can help one mama, just one woman who is struggling, I will have achieved my goal.
A recent study reveals that postpartum suicide is the 2nd leading cause of mortality postpartum. That is NOT ok. As new mamas, we need to let ourselves open up about what we are experiencing. We should not feel guilty or ashamed for expressing our emotions.
As a society, we expect new moms to be happy and excited after giving birth, but that’s not always the case. Sometimes, it just sucks, and that’s ok! It’s totally normal not to feel blissfully happy all the time.
